Cisco, Apple Settle iPhone Lawsuit, Share Trademark

In a joint statement released on Wednesday, Cisco and Apple disclosed that they have resolved their dispute involving the “iPhone" trademark. Under the agreement, both companies are free to use the “iPhone" trademark on their products throughout the world. Both companies acknowledge the trademark ownership rights that have been granted, and each side will dismiss any pending actions regarding the trademark. The agreement was reached days after Cisco stated that it had granted Apple another extension to settle the dispute.

The battle over the iPhone trademark between Apple and Cisco started in early January, when Apple unveiled its first multimedia wireless device during the MacWorld conference using the name iPhone.

Cisco had challenged the Apple iPhone name usage, by calling it a trademark infringement, in San Francisco Federal Court.
